# Preloaded points settings

> `Smile.pointsSettings.preloaded()`

This method retrieves the preloaded points settings from the cache, without making an API call. Refer to [preloading resources](/js/concepts/preloading) to learn how to refresh the value.

  For this method to return a value, points settings must first be [preloaded](/js/concepts/preloading) . If you want to retrieve live values from the API, use the [`Smile.pointsSettings.get()`](/js/resources/points-settings/get) method instead.

## Returns

This method returns a [points settings object](/js/resources/points-settings/object). If points settings have not been preloaded, `null` is returned.
